This is an introduction to swim lessons. We will focus on comfort in the water and with an instructor without the parent participating. We will practice basic swim skills very progressively with heavy instructor assistance. Use of toys and songs will accompany the lesson.
This is a beginner swim level. Kids may not have had any exposure to water or lessons previously. Kids will learn to float and kick with assistance and start basic arm movements (hunting arms). Goal of Level 1 is to gain comfort in the water, blow bubbles, submerge independently, and have an introduction to basic swimming skills and body positions.
Kids are comfortable in the water, blowing bubbles and submerging independently. They have proper form on basic floats and kicks and are ready to start swimming short distances independently. They will perfect their hunting arms and self-rescue rolls. This is where they will begin an introduction to freestyle, lateral breathing and backstroke.
Kids have been introduced and have a good understanding of freestyle, lateral breathing and backstroke. They are proficient in hunting arms and self-rescue rolls. In Level 3 they will learn to be proficient in freestyle with lateral breathing every 3 strokes, backstroke and start treading. Kids must be focused and respectful to class and instructor. Proper stroke form and technique will be enforced. Endurance and strength will be emphasized.
Kids must be ready for formal and technical stroke technique and more endurance. Proficient in freestyle with lateral breathing every 3 strokes, backstroke and hunting arms with self-rescue rolls at least ½ length. Breaststroke, side swimming, flip turns and longer treading times will be introduced. Endurance and strength will be emphasized. Kids must meet Level 4 evaluation requirements and drills before advancing to Level 5.
*Your instructor has the discretion and judgement to pass or repeat kids as necessary. We WILL NOT pass anyone who does not sufficiently meet the evaluation requirements for a given level.
Kids must be proficient in freestyle with lateral breathing every 3 strokes, backstroke and breaststroke. Must be proficient in self-rescue, treading and flip turns. Must be ready for a full ½ hour of lap swimming varying between strokes and drills. Kids should have an understanding of dolphin kick and side swimming. Kids should also know proper swimming and stroke terms and names.
*Level 4 and 5 are differentiated on distances, technique and endurance/strength.
